Ingredients

For the Dough:

3 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 packet (2 ¼ tsp) active dry yeast

¾ cup milk, warmed to 110°F

⅓ cup granulated sugar

⅓ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg

½ teaspoon salt

For the Filling:

1 cup apple butter

1 cup pecans, finely chopped

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ cup brown sugar, packed

For the Glaze:

1 cup powdered sugar

2 tablespoons milk

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Dough:

    - In a small bowl, combine the warmed milk and active dry yeast. Allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until it becomes frothy and bubbly.

      - In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Create a well in the center and pour in the melted butter, beaten egg, and the frothy yeast mixture.

        - Stir the mixture until a soft dough forms. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic.

          - Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm location for approximately 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

            Make the Filling:

              - While the dough is rising, in a medium bowl, mix together the apple butter, chopped pecans, ground cinnamon, and packed brown sugar until thoroughly combined. Set aside.

                Roll Out the Dough:

                  - After the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle that measures about 12x18 inches.

                    - Evenly spread the apple butter filling over the dough, ensuring to leave a small border of about 1 inch along the edges.

                      Form the Rolls:

                        - Starting from one of the long edges, tightly roll the dough into a log shape. Pinch the seams to seal the roll securely.

                          - Cut the log into 12 equal pieces and place them cut-side up in a greased baking dish, ensuring they are placed close together for a soft texture.

                            Second Rise:

                              - Cover the rolls with the kitchen towel once more, and allow them to rise for an additional 30 minutes at room temperature, until puffy.

                                Bake:

                                  - Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top and cooked through.

                                    Prepare the Glaze:

                                      - While the rolls are baking, in a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

                                        Glaze and Serve:

                                          - Once the rolls are out of the oven, let them cool in the baking dish for about 10 minutes. Drizzle the glaze generously over the warm rolls before serving.
