4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

1 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 tablespoon dried basil

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

2 tablespoons olive oil

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C), ensuring it’s ready for baking.

    Prepare the Chicken: Take the chicken breasts and season them generously with salt, pepper, and garlic powder on both sides, allowing the flavors to penetrate the meat.

      Set Up Dredging Stations: Arrange three shallow dishes: one for the flour, one for the beaten eggs, and a third for the breadcrumb mixture. In the third dish, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, and dried basil evenly.

        Dredge the Chicken: Carefully dredge each seasoned chicken breast in the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip the floured chicken into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess egg to drip off before proceeding to coat it in the breadcrumb mixture. Press the crumbs firmly onto the chicken to ensure a good, even layer.

          Pan-Sear the Chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the breaded chicken breasts to the skillet. Sear each side for about 3-4 minutes, or until a golden brown crust forms. You may need to work in batches to prevent overcrowding the skillet.

            Assembly: In a large baking dish, spread 1 cup of marinara sauce evenly across the bottom. Arrange the seared chicken breasts on top of the sauce. Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the chicken so that it is well-covered. Finally, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.

              Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake for 25 minutes. After this time, carefully remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and beautifully golden.
