Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour

2 ¼ teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)

2 tablespoons sugar

1 teaspoon salt (plus extra for topping)

1 ½ cups warm milk (about 110°F/43°C)

1 large egg, at room temperature

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened (for garlic herb mixture)

4 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped

1 teaspoon dried thyme

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and instant yeast. Stir gently, then let the mixture sit for 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy, indicating that the yeast is active.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt, ensuring an even distribution.

Combine the Ingredients: Create a well in the center of the flour mixture. Pour in the frothy yeast mixture, then add the room-temperature egg and melted butter. Stir the mixture until it blends together into a shaggy dough.

Knead the Dough: Lightly flour your work surface and transfer the dough onto it. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough feels overly sticky, incorporate additional flour a tablespoon at a time.

First Rise: Transfer the kneaded dough to a greased bowl, covering it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap. Allow it to rise in a warm location for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Prepare the Garlic Herb Butter: In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, rosemary, thyme, black pepper, and the remaining ½ teaspoon of sea salt. Mix until thoroughly combined and set aside.

Shape the Rolls: After rising, punch down the dough to release air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball and arrange them in a greased 9x13 inch baking pan or on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

Second Rise: Cover the shaped rolls with a clean kitchen towel. Let them rise for an additional 30-40 minutes, or until they have puffed up and are touching one another.

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) during the second rise so it’s ready for the rolls.

Apply Garlic Herb Butter: Once the rolls have risen, brush them generously with the prepared garlic herb butter mixture, making sure each roll is well coated.

Bake the Rolls: Place the rolls in the preheated oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until they are golden brown on top.

Serve: Remove the rolls from the oven and brush with any remaining garlic herb butter for extra flavor. Allow them to cool slightly before serving.

Enjoy your warm and flavorful Garlic Herb Butter Dinner Rolls as a perfect side dish for dinner or a delightful treat on their own!
