Ingredients

For the Sweet and Savory Sausage Filling:

1 pound ground breakfast sausage (choose mild or spicy based on your taste)

1/3 cup maple syrup (or substitute with honey for a different sweetness)

1/4 cup dried cranberries, finely chopped

1/4 cup pecans, chopped (walnuts can be used as an alternative)

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Roll-Ups:

1 package (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent roll dough

1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional for a cheesy twist)

1 egg, beaten (for the egg wash)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for a colorful garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare the Sausage Filling: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground breakfast sausage. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 5-7 minutes or until it is browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.

Add Flavor Enhancements: Lower the heat to low, and stir in the maple syrup, chopped cranberries, pecans, smoked paprika, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well and let the filling simmer together for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Remove from heat and set aside to cool slightly.

Roll Out the Crescent Dough: Carefully open the refrigerated crescent roll dough and separate it into individual triangles by following the perforated lines.

Assemble the Roll-Ups: On the wider end of each triangle, place a generous spoonful of the sausage filling. If you’d like to add cheese, sprinkle a little on top of the filling. Begin rolling the dough from the wide end towards the pointed end, tucking in the edges as you roll to ensure the filling stays contained. Arrange each roll-up seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk the egg until well beaten. Brush the tops of each roll-up with the egg wash to achieve a beautiful golden color when baked.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the roll-ups are golden brown and cooked through.

Garnish and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the roll-ups to cool for a few minutes. Before serving, sprinkle with chopped parsley for a fresh touch.

Enjoy: Serve warm, accompanied by additional maple syrup or honey on the side for dipping!
